Fanjeaux, Aude, Southern France
The house is on the edge of the hill-top village of Fanjeaux, which is designated as a village of historic importance.
We bought the house, not only for its charm, but also because it has wonderful views as far as the eye can see towards the Montagne Noir. The view is of farmland scattered with a couple of pretty villages. The land is worked and a way of life for many locals; crops can include sunflowers, wheat, maize and vines. It is an ever changing scene and with wonderful evening light.
The house is our home and we want to rent it out in the spirit of staying in a friend's house. Use what is there but replace anything that runs-out, please.
The accommodation is made of the main house and the apartment, which is attached to the house, but it can be used as separate accommodation, if required. The house and the apartment are never rented out separately.
The house has a large sitting room/dining room, kitchen, downstairs lavatory and 3 double bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. (See floor plan.)
The apartment has a sitting/dining room, kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom.
Although the whole property sleeps 8, generally we rent to a maximum of 6, with a free choice of bedrooms occupied. However occupancy of 8 is negotiable.
The house is our second home and was bought as such, not as a commercial enterprise, so it is very comfortably furnished and fully equipped. We live in it about 4 months a year.
Sheets and towels provided. (The towels are for house use only, not for the beach.) All linen is changed every week.
The house is cleaned before you come and after you go. This service is included in the price, unless excessive cleaning is needed.
In Winter, heating costs are to be met by the client, as people's need for warmth vary so much.

There is a large level garden area with BBQ next to the house and overlooking the view. The rest of the garden is made up of planted terraces and a sloping meadow. The terracing and meadow areas make the garden unsuitable for children under 6 years old.
There is free-to-air UK television, a DVD player and Wi-Fi internet access.
There is no swimming pool, but there are local public ones.
Being on the edge of the village, the shops and other amenities are a few minutes walk away, down through the village. The return to the house is up-hill, but the view of the Pyrenees gives a good excuse to stop and admire. Of course, you can always take your car as parking is easily available.
The village is very safe and the people friendly and polite. In Summer they play boule 200 yards from the house, which can be fun to watch.

The nearest airports are Carcassonne (20 minutes) and Toulouse (1 hour.)
